Smelling the air of fiesta here in our town. This afternoon, as we were buying loaf bread at the market, we got caught in a long parade of vehicles were lovely ladies were on board waving the crowds at the market. They were the candidates in our town’s pageant. My bad, my hands were camera-free.
It’s been a month now that bargain shops were like mushrooms in the market road enticing locals to spend their huge profits in harvesting onions. Onions were the primary crop here in our town, aside from palay (rice). I guess, our town’s the biggest producer of red and white onions. Farmers were so long been protesting the ban of onion imports coming from neighboring Asian countries. Oftentimes, as red tape were rampant in this country, and imports were shipped in and had penetrated the market, farmers would incur huge losses, as high costs of fertilizers and pesticides eats out most of the expenses in onion farming.
And, to celebrate each harvest season, the local officials have tendered out a thanksgiving feast for the bountiful harvest of onion each year.
This was last year’s celebration of the so-called “Sibuyasan Festival”, where different schools compete on street dancing.

I heard this year’s celebration will be grander. I hope so. It’s fun watching the different colors of the season. The colors of Fiesta.
